User groups

The following groups regularly use the pavilion for recreational and social activities:-

    • ELEMENT - St Catharine’s Church youth group meets every Friday (term time) 4.00-5.15pm, school years 7-11. St Catharine’s Element is a safe space for young people to relax, ask questions and have fun. Tuck shop, various games available, Xbox and WII games.See contact details at
    • BRIDGE CLUB - Houghton Bridge Club meets every Wednesday evening in the pavilion.
We have a membership of about 30 people, of whom on any one evening 20 to 24 will normally attend.
Our membership is mostly those aged 60 and above and the club is very much a social club and ALL are welcome.
Unlike many bridge clubs, we welcome those who are single and/or divorced or widowed. You do not need a partner to join us for the evening.
We play Chicago Bridge, and will accommodate 5 at a table sometimes, if there are not all multiples of '4's.
We play socially, but are not a 'bridge school', so cannot accommodate beginners. You do not have to be County standard either. Most of our members are intermediate standard. If we were golfers most of us would have a handicap of 15-20, and only a few are good enough to have a single figure handicap!

    • THURSDAY SOCIAL CLUB - On Thursday afternoons, a small group of people get together at the pavilion. They play table tennis, card and board games. Occasionally there is indoor curling and boccia is sometimes played.  Anyone can bring along a new game or put forward ideas for other activities.
There is also a book swap and a good range of books is available.Birthdays are celebrated with cakes, Christmas with a party, and during the summer there is usually a Pimms afternoon.
To cover the cost of the room hire and refreshments, a small charge is made if you attend.
The group is friendly and welcoming, so if you would like some company on a Thursday afternoon then do come along to the Pavilion, if only for tea, biscuits and a chat. For further information please contact Ann Sleath 0116 2431617
